Prince Edward Theatre

Decked out in her floral, maroon-coloured Noji Art bou-bou, E.J gave her make-up a final once over. Her signature Ruby Woo/Bridgerton Rouge lip and her faux Cindy Crawford-esque mole were always the perfect accents to her full-face beat. She picked up her Samsung S23 Ultra and took a selfie, as insurance, to make sure it all looked good in natural light. A trick she had learnt from her former make-up artist.

“Mama! Mama! The bus will be here in about 10 minutes. We need to hurry.” Looking absolutely fly in a beige bou-bou with a gorgeous bright blonde baby afro, Mum descended the carpeted staircase to set out the ramps. A hop, skip and a glide later, they started the journey to the Prince Edward Theatre to watch Ain’t Too Proud: The Temptations Musical.

The gentle clomp clomp of the cobblestone was a musical soundtrack to E.J’S journey to the side door. There was a pleasant man with a wide smile, neck tattoos, diamante studs. and a faux-hawk ready to receive them. As they turned into the doorway, their eyes roamed the crowd. Mama said, “I think you are the youngest person here. How do y9ou know The Temptations’ repertoire anyway?”

“How come you don’t?” E.J. responded cheekily. She was visibly excited for the hours of good Motown music. “Okay, it’s time to get in your seat. Aare you ready to jump?” Mama asked. “Ready as I’ll ever be.” E,J steadied herself and counted to three. On three, she jumped into her seat and instructed the attendant on how to navigate her Whill C2 to a safe place. “Will you need your chair during the intermission?” the attendant asked, politely. “No, thank you,” E.J. replied, smiling widely. She bid her chair adieu and settled into the funky melodies by The Temptations.
